*spoiler alert*
I finally read The Housemaid in time for the film release, and honestly… I get the hype. This book grabbed me by the collar in chapter one and did not let go. Five stars, no doubt.
Let’s talk about Andrew Winchester – on paper: perfect husband vibes. In reality: manipulative, shady, and absolutely not what you signed up for. Once his backstory dropped, I honestly had to step back and blink. I can’t even pretend that I expected it.
Then there’s Nina. You know that one friend who seems chill… until they drop the mic and you realize they were plotting everything this whole time? That’s Nina. Seven years of silent suffering and inner plotting, and she held it together long enough to finally strike. I couldn’t stop thinking about how desperate she must have been. It made everything she did hit harder.
And Enzo: big softie energy in a thriller-filled nightmare. The way he wanted to protect Millie, even while trying to keep his promise to Nina, shows he genuinely has a strong moral core. He had no clue he was in the middle of Nina’s master plan, yet he still tried to do the right thing. A refreshing breath in a house full of smoke.
Then the end. The weirdest, saddest little moment: Evelyn admitting to Nina that she’s glad Andrew got “taught a lesson,” while also confessing she once yanked out one of his baby teeth. That little detail? Ice-cold goosebumps. It was sad in a strange, quiet way – a little glimpse into how Andrew was shaped long before the story even began.
Bottom line: this book is wild, twisty, and emotionally chaotic – in the best way. Perfect for when you want something addictive but also emotional in its own sharp little way. I absolutely loved it.
