I know I’m not the only one who didn’t love this. I get that it’s a musical but does it need to be that musical? It’s like the director told them, “More songs! But make them… kinda average?”
First off, they really committed to the bit of making this movie feel forever. It’s giving “this meeting could have been an email, but instead it’s a four-hour presentation.”
The pacing is a total mess—we get endless warbling, but the actual story gets sidelined. Like, can we get back to the witches and the Wizard, please?
And speaking of the plot, let’s talk about that “climax.”
So Elphaba totally tricks everyone by faking her own death with some water and a sneaky trapdoor. It’s all a big performance to make people think she “melted” and get away with Fiyero. Eye roll.
It’s just so anticlimactic! Like, we were ready for the feels, the drama, the epic sacrifice. Instead, we got a “surprise, I’m alive!” moment that made the whole emotional rollercoaster feel kinda pointless.
I’m glad my ticket was free, or I’d be asking for my money back.
